Let me see, if I support the Houston Texan football team, folks who support the Bears are not welcome? What tiresome BS. Writer O'Baloney must be a phoney.
I have never been treated with anything but grudgin acceptance which makes it a true Irish pub. They would treat their sainted Mother the same way. The food is good, the choice of beers is outstanding, the people are REAL not phoney. AND they work at making it a place where people from everywhere enjoy and want to frequent. The ambiance would be as at home in Letterkenny or Knock as it is in Houston. Do yourself a favor, and visit this fine establishment.

This place is a blast on Fridays (Karaoke with people who actually sound professional!) and Saturdays (DJ that plays incredible 80's music that really takes you back!)....The Reuben sandwich and Jalapeno meatloaf are outstanding. If you're lucky enough to have Karen, Molly or Jamie as your server, you're goung to have a great time! The staff is friendly and accomodating!!

This is a reply on behalf of the Houston Celtic Supporters Club (HCSC) as a response to the post by John, O' Mahoney, TX (06/15/2005) Listed below. As a club we would like to express our thanks to the Bull And Bear for hosting our club for a number of years. We have always found the bar an extremely good place to drink, eat and watch our games in very pleasant surroundings. John has posted 277 times to this site about various locations, so I am sure he likes to express his opinions and takes a great deal of pleasure in the thought that people read his posts and take notice of what he says. We can assure you that if his other posts are anything like the post below they are totally false. With regards to the post by John, O' Mahoney, TX (06/15/2005) as a club we find this post totally offensive and inaccurate. As has been stated by a number of posts since there is nothing sectarian about the club memorabilia on the wall’s and I would like John to point out exactly why he thinks it is sectarian, rather than hide behind the anonymity of a totally inaccurate post. 1. John states he comes from Glasgow, Scotland and nowhere in the city would a pub be allowed to display those football colors or practice the level of sectarian bigotry. Response from HCSC John where I went to school in Glasgow “COLORS” was spelt “COLOURS” “PRACTISE” was spelt “PRACTICE”. There are a number of bars in Scotland that openly display football memorabilia. Please state what is sectarian about our memorabilia. 2. John also finds it interesting that this pub is not only off the beaten track and hard to find but it's wall which is covered in items about Glasgow Celtic alienates half the potential custom. Response from HCSC I would hardly state that a bar in a strip mall off Westheimer is off the beaten track. Secondly his conclusion that Celtic memorabilia alienates half the potential custom. So what John is saying is that there are only two types of people that drink in bars, those that support Celtic and those that don’t. This is absolute rubbish, only a bigot thinks this way. From the above he draws a conclusion that this is why it is empty all of the time, John how many times have you been to the bar? 3. He also states that he came 5,000 miles to get away from this type of Religious bigotry and intolerance and it seems that bigots like these people want to bring it with them all the way to Houston. Response from HCSC I am sure he meant Religious Bigotry and intolerance, but who looked at the memorabilia and thought of Religious Bigotry and intolerance, our club is made up of members of all denominations. I think John could travel many more miles and still find Religious Bigotry and intolerance because I believe John is the one that has carried this all the way to Houston and will probably carry this about with him forever. 4. He finds this disturbing and encourages Rangers fans, Everton fans, Hearts fans, Arsenal fans, and anyone of the Non RC persuasion to stay away. Response from HCSC Once again John is way off mark, if anyone of Non RC persuasion was to stay away we would lose a lot of our members. Secondly our club is open to any supporters of other clubs that Celtic play to come along and watch any live game and we are encouraged that a number of other club fans do come along regularly . I believe we were the only soccer supporters club in Houston that organized a bus to go and watch Everton when they played in Houston in 2004. 5. He also observes You'll find the bar staff are more than delighted at your shock at the level of bigotry displayed on it's walls. Response from HCSC I would probably state this as, the bar staffs shock at your delight in finding the memorabilia bigoted. 6. He closes with Nasty nasty nasty! It's bigotry at it's worst - vote with your feet people and go elsewhere. Response from HCSC John your post is bigotry at it’s worst - as stated at the beginning of this post please tell us what is bigoted about photos of football players and other football Memorabilia . In summary our club are proud to be a non-sectarian club and we have made a strong and successful effort to ensure we have nothing sectarian or political on the walls of this bar, for one thing the owner of the pub would never stand for this type of behavior. We have Scots, Irish, American and English club members among others, none of which would be associated with any sectarian or political advertising. Our constitution clearly states that we are a non-sectarian club as is the North American federation that we are under. The committee would like to extend an invite to John to meet with us to discuss the matter in detail and review all memorabilia we have on display. Houston Celtic Supporters Club

I would suggest that the original poster removes his blinkers. Yes the pub does have Celtic F.C. memoribila on the wall.Soccer shirts, pictures of players, and 3 blazers of the first British team to win the European Cup. Perhaps I am being naive but I fail to see what is bigoted in that.perhaps the original poster looks to be offended. If so I would suggest that he looks no further than the signing policy of the club he obviously "follows"

I am a protestant from English descent and frequent the Bull & Bear a few times a week. The previous poster is entirely too thin skinned to recognize a good pub when they see one. Yes, there is a wall of Glasgow Celtic memorabilia, but that is fitting since the pub is the home of the Houston Bobby Lennox Celtic Supporters Club. I am a ManU fan a many regulars are Arsenal and Liverpool fans and we all enjoy the games together.
Enough about you.
The food is excellent. My wife has thew fish n chips or bangers n mash atleast once a week and I enjoy a steak or appetizer several times a week while having some pints w/ mates. They have 30 beers on tap and a full licquor bar. I have gotten to know the barstaff over the last few months and they are a lot of fun. They add to a great atmosphere where most of my English, Scottish, Irish, and American friends can relax and enjoy a taste of home.

An excellent pub, more than 20 taps, try the Old Speckled Hen draft. Staff is excellent, friendly prompt service. Food is one of the best kept secrets in Houston, try the lamb chops or blackened snapper. Home of the Houston Celtic Supporters Club(Scottish and Irish soccers fans of Glasgow Celtic FC)
